order of opening credits

Typically the order of the opening credits are ordered as having the studio that is producing the film their name first. then the production company who are responsible for the making of the film, and infamous an investor contributed a significant amount on the movie they could be credited alongside theo the production company with "in a association with". Typically after that the producers name (productions) afterwards. Then:

 directors name

cast (using starring)

film title

cast (using featuring) not so common anymore, most are now mentioned at the end credits.

casting by

music/ composer

production designer

edited by

director of photography

producers again

depending on whether or not its based on anything the, 'based on'

written or written by

then finally the director again.

our credits are going to be simple and plain but stand out against the background when we can. a few of them will be angled on walls and disappear when people walk past/ over. just link the credits in this previous opening title sequence from Hurtwood. link

The film Gone Girl has a similar looking theme and the plot is very similar too ours also. their white on darker backgrounds is something we tried to incorporate to deliberately show the audience where we placed the credits. The credits are create un-obvious tension, with a dark and brooding attitude, which we tried to recreate especially closer to the end of the sequence.

SEAN AND ELAINE BASS research project

Saul Bass was a graphic designer and filmmaker known for his design of film posters and sequences.  He worked with some of the greatest directors, such as Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese. He was first recognised in the film industry after creating the title sequence for 'The Man With The Golden Arm'. Bass designed effective, compelling and memorable title sequences, inventing a new type of kinetic typography for North by NorthwestVertigo and Psycho. Here here is a clip of some of his most famous works

Elaine Bass is an American title designer and filmmaker. She was the wife and collaborator of designer and filmmaker Saul Bass for  40 years. In 1955 Elaine got a job as the assistant to graphic and title designer Saul Bass. 5 years later, Elaine directed on her own for the first time with the opening title sequence to Spartacus. After that, most of Saul Bass’s title design and film work were made working with Elaine. The following year, Saul and Elaine married. Their first joint venture into short filmmaking was with promotional films at the 1964 World’s Fair; they made the short film Why Man Creates, which won an Oscar.  They created the title sequences for films The War of the Roses, Scorsese, GoodfellasCape Fear and Casino, their last title sequence together.

Casino opening title

Sean and Elaine Bass worked on the opening title sequence for the Infamous "Casino" directed by Martin Scorsese. the film opens with a character getting into his car and blowing up; the mood is sombre and down but in a bright sunny place, contrasting the spirit. The carvehiclecar vehicle explodes, and the opening titles start with fire leading straight into it. A body flies in slow motion across the screen as Martin Scorsese's name fades onto the screen; a choir sings in the background adding a robust, substantial feel to the sequence like something big has just happened w. We don't know it yet. The cast names fade in white through the flames. asAs the fire stops and the choir lightens up, the red of the flames turns into the bright red lights of a casino. As the title CASINO fades onto the screen over them. theThe credits continue like this as the lights of the casinos flash up on the screens. The same body flies and falls across the screen occasionally.  Until the flames return at the end and the film starts.

I think this is a powerful tile sequence as It allows the audience to view the names clearly whilst still having enough toto focus in the background. theThe angelic music sets the tone of the film's tone style as a young Italian mobster breaks into the crime industry th; the divine types are often synonymous with Italians in Hollywood. Sean and Elaine's bass did a great job with the opening title sequence, as it is clear they've utilised their research to create the right setting for this opening title.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Supposing our entire sequence ended up being its own film it could be distributed by many companies around the globe. Thrillers have become a largely popularised in the last few years and many small and even larger production companies have picked up many thrillers as they're entertaining to the masses and drive a-lot of traffic through platforms. however the larger ones do too, for example THE KINGS MAN was but straight onto Disney. Making $105.3 million on the global box office, the film

didn’t do as well as hoped in cinemas, which might explain why it came to streaming services so quickly, and since its on there still it is safe too assume it made a-lot more streaming than it did from the cinemas.

These sorts of thrillers especially drama/ relationship ones entertain people, it is the most viewed genre on Netflix. Baby driver is the most watched thriller film on Netflix too date. the difference between these two films is that The Kings Man is a British film and Baby Driver done in Hollywood but they're both big production companies with family issues. however The Kings Man is done by a production company called MARV. formally SKA films, which is not massive but has created some of the biggest thriller films, including the 3 kingsmen films, Kick-Ass and Rocket-man.

History of opening titles and credits research task.

History of opening titles and credits research task.

For the credits, there are multiple shots in our filming which we could incorporate credits into. in my videos.

this is another Hurtwood media project  which I've been referring too for how we will try too apply our credits. they style these guys presented with the 'swiping' of their credits and style of font we could use in our own especially the way they move into shot.

another example could be like this which fits our red and black ish theme in the final scene of the sequence.

Band of Brothers opening title sequence - Fonts In Use

or more like this which is simple but clearly stands out. both of these ideas for the final shot/ cut too black Snowpiercer opening title sequence - Fonts In Use\

this evolution of logos of the big 5. as shown in the first layer we have them almost identical bar the font, I like this idea of simplest works and that they all do the same thing but just different companies so I will try to add the idea of not being massively outstanding in out logo or font etc.

The text that heavily inspired my original scene shots, Shame. Is similar in theme, a man whose made ‘mistakes’ and faces the consequences. Even though it's in her head. The genre would be more thriller than drama so the main inspiration for our plot was the TV show 'You', with a woman killing and whatnot. There has been I spike recently over the past 5 years or so of morbid curiosity within media and having lots of true crime/ serial killer documentaries and shows etc. this heavily influenced myself towards our group idea.

You season 2 trailer

the ending shot of the baseball bat is what inspired us to incorporate this into our scene.

location: SHERE

Images of Shere locations we visited.

We kept it local so that we had enough time in the day to get back to the studio to film the ending of our sequence. Shere is also picturesque and has been the location for many real films such as Bridget jones's diary and the holiday

post filming step by step

 post filming step by step

we arrived at the studio promptly at 9:00am to collect our camera, tripod, mic and rest of gear. by 9:20 we were in the van on route too Shere. we parked up by the church around 9:35 and had a brief look around for opening shots to shoot. there was a light bit of rain so we got some umbrellas and filmed a few ducks in a pond. the rain got a-lot heavier so we bought some clingfilm too wrap the camera. once we had finished that we waited for Nikki too arrive at 10:30 and we started by filming her arriving into Shere in a car. mid shots of her being angry and hitting her string wheel. whilst we were there we also filmed her from different angles doing the same thing from inside the car. then as we knew we would be doing the same thing at the end of the shoot, with her driving away etc we decided to film her doing the opposite, leaving, so that if we lost the car space there wouldn't be any continuity errors. after this we filmed Nikki walking just across the road too the Pub which she would see her ‘husband’ (Adam) with another woman (freya). We filmed Nikki first walking up too the pub window, and then with Adam and Freya positioned inside, we had too film from Nikki’s POV and so that meant getting the right angle from through the windows of the pub, also positioning Adam and Freya in a way that could be seen clearly. However first we had to get clear shots of the table with the cutlery, tables etc. So, as the point of our sequence is that it was all in her head the entire time. We shot an over the shoulder shot, and then also her POV Our next shots were, just the opposite, Nikki walking down the steps and across the road towards a coffee shop where the same thing happened. The focal point of our plot was that none of it was real, so in these shots, we filmed Adam, Freya and Lilly’s little brother Teddy whose role was Adams biological son and Nikki his mother and Teddy was being introduced too ‘the new girlfriend’. Again we filmed the table first for the post shot. Then we had an over the shoulder shot, we had to be careful with the angles as there was a large beam inside the shot to we had to get Nikki in the way of that as so it looked like she could see them straight. They were simple shots but the rain and dark skies on the day made it seem quite brooding. Then we filmed her walking back towards her car and in editing we would add those shots from earlier of her getting in.

We had lunch then drove back to school for our final shots. We had Freya tied up to the staircase leading in and out of the studio. We covered her in a small amount of fake blood and the girls did her makeup to make her look slightly bruised.

We moved the camera up higher as see was sat on the floor we did this to make her look smaller and vulnerable than she really is.  we had a dark red light shine above the camera, too create a silhouette of Nikki when she came through. we had her come down the stairs dragging a baseball bat. you could see her feet at the bat hitting each step as she came down the stairs and then her move slightly in-front of the camera. the final shot was of Nikki swinging the baseball bat towards freya (which was actually the camera) and the shot going black. alternatively. Nikki's back getting in the way leading too the same outcome.
